Wood Angus Farm, located in Willow Spring, North Carolina, is owned and operated by Russell and Elaine Wood and their family. Formerly operating as Cedar Bay Farm, Russell and Elaine have been breeders of Angus cattle since 1998. In the fall of 2010, Jeremy Feller became manager of the Wood Angus show barn. John Barnes joined us in 2011. Jeremy and John are an invaluable part of the farm; working closely with Russell and Elaine and their sons, Jeff and Robbie, to manage all aspects of the operation.

Russell and Elaine have six grandchildren that live on the family farm. The older grandchildren are active in showing cattle and spend a great deal of time at the show barn working with their animals. All of the children are members of the North Carolina Junior Angus Association and their local 4-H club. Russell and Elaine are excited to share their passion for Angus cattle with the youngest generation of the Wood family.

The Wood Angus herd features naturally thick, heavy-muscled and deep-bodied cattle that excel in fleshing ability, fertility and longevity. The nucleus of the Wood Angus herd originates from Schaff Angus Valley Ranch in North Dakota. The Wood Angus breeding philosophy emphasizes performance, fertility and ability to wean a heavy calf on grass. Female families represented in the Wood Angus herd include SAV Blackcap May, SAV Emblynette, SAV Erica, SAV Madame Pride and SAV Abigale. The herd also includes five Pathfinder cows: SAV Bessie Heiress 2282, SAV Emblynette 2399, SAV Emblynette 4391, SAV Blackbird 3172 and SAV Lassie Pride 4121.

A very important marketing strategy at Wood Angus is exhibiting their cattle at local, state, and national Junior and Open shows.  They have had great success and feel free to check out the show highlights under the show ring tag.   While at the shows with their cattle, Russell and Elaine enjoy meeting people and spending time with friends in the cattle industry.
